V0.2 is out!
So, ver. 0.2 is out and I have a couple of things to say about it. Two months have passed since 0.1 and, I have to admit, I didn't plan for 0.2 to take this long. If you are interested just in facts and changes, check the changelog... For those who are interested in the reasons behind this update here we go. I have good news and sort of disappointing news. The good news is that I'm genuinely pleased with the amount of things I was able to do and implement, and with the things I learned in the process. I've figured out how to organize my game so I won't get lost and confused once the game gets big enough. I hope you will be pleased with the way the game looks now. I made sure (To the best of my ability) that, except this one time, people wouldn't have to replay the intro every update. It took me so long because I added a lot of 'under the hood' stuff that took, relatively, a lot of time, more than I expected, but more about it in the changelog. Now the disappointing part is that for the actual player, who just wants to enjoy 'entertainment' content, this update is not as fulfilling as one might wish. (4 events, more about it in the changelog). The silver lining here is that now the game has everything it needs, or at least I believe so, for me to focus on writing and creating actual events which the player can enjoy. This is not ideal but it was needed to be done so that later on I wouldn't run into any problems and wouldn't be forced to completely redo things I finished and spend time on that.
But let's look at what was actually changed
Changelog 0.2:
Technical Stuff:
-Added Inventory (Really hope you will like the design): Some items will be just souvenirs, some will be needed to progress different story lines, there are a lot of ideas that will work with that.
-Added Journal: Every character(That is important obviously) will have their own journal entry, there you can find a bit of their background, but more importantly, how to progress their story and their current location. Every time you go further with the character the hints will update and tell you what to do next. I decided though not to add hints to repeatable events, since they are bound to characters current locations (And mostly because there is only 1 repeatable event in the game as of now.)
- Added fast travel at home(Per requests): Some said that it's tedious to click so many times to go from a to b at home map, so now if you don't want to you don't need to.
- Added School map (School is a big location and will play a big part in multiple characters stories so I needed to make it big with a lot of locations)
- Characters Schedule: Everyone has a schedule now, some are simple and some a more complex, the point is that once the time passes, characters' locations get updated and you can actually find them in that location. For now you can interact with them since I haven't added things to do and making empty interactions seems odd.
Events
The journal has hints to where and when you can proceed with this events
- Katherine first Event "Shower": I tried to balance the story speed so that her corruption wouldn't be so slow but also not to jump too far. I hope I succeeded.
- Katherine Repeatable Event: Every time she comes back from school, she changes out of her uniform in her room. Maybe you should take a look? ;)
- Katherine second Event "Fun in her room": I really hope I took in the right direction, but I like the way it turned out.
Olivia first Story Event: This one doesn't have any 'entertaining' content but it is important since you will choose your approach to handling the teacher. I would also like the feedback on the way I designed the important choice menu so I can see if I will use it in the future.
Long story event that introduces two new characters(Check the journal about yourself): Find out new bits and pieces of information about the current world, about the past and about your character's concerns. Fun without problems isn't really fun, is it?
